William Ashby McCloy (1913-2011), raised in China until the age of 13, had a varied career working as a teacher and a clinical psychologist for the U.S. army. He received a B.A. in Art before studying Psychology of Art for his graduate degree, both at the University of Iowa. While working as a professor, McCloy assisted Curry in three murals before completing two of his own. He later received Ph.D. 's in Painting and Art History. His work has been shown at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Library of Congress, to name a few.
